ST. LOUIS -- Though his overall success rate still ranks last in the National League, manager Mike Matheny remains on a recent replay roll as he successfully challenged a call in the first inning on Tuesday.
The replay review awarded Adam Wainwright with a double play after first-base umpire Ron Kulpa initially ruled the Pirates' Andrew Lambo safe at first. The review overturned the call, completing the double play. The ruling helped Wainwright to a scoreless first inning in which he faced the minimum on 13 pitches.
With the overturned call, Matheny has now won five of his last seven challenges. He opened the season correct just twice in 16 challenged plays.
