Cardinals recall Martinez; option Siegrist to Memphis (AAA)

The St. Louis Cardinals recalled right-handed pitcher Carlos Martinez from Triple-A Memphis this morning and optioned left-handed pitcher Kevin Siegrist to Memphis following last night's game.

Martinez, 22, who spent most of the season on the Major League roster, was optioned to Memphis following the Cardinals game on August 1. In two starts at Memphis, Martinez was 1-0 and threw 10.1 scoreless innings allowing six hits while striking out seven and limiting opponents to a .167 batting average with one extra base hit. He was 2-4 with a 4.74 ERA in 38 appearances including seven starts in St. Louis before the option.

Siegrist, 25, was activated off the 15-day disabled list on July 23 after suffering a left forearm strain which caused him to miss 52 games from May 24 through July 22.
