Memorial Day recognized at Busch Stadium

|

ST. LOUIS -- As part of Major League Baseball's efforts to remember those who died in service to the country, the Cardinals and Yankees wore specially designed caps and jerseys that featured a camouflage script. The two clubs also paused during their pregame preparations to participate in the National Moment of Remembrance, a moment of silence held at around 3 p.m. CT.

The military-style caps and jerseys are available for purchase; MLB and MLB Advanced Media have pledged to donate all of the net proceeds from the items to Welcome Back Veterans, which provides grants to university hospitals throughout the country that provide treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder and injury to veterans and their families.

Since the program began in 2008, MLB has donated more than $30 million to Welcome Back Veterans.

The Cardinals also had a bald eagle from the World Bird Sanctuary circle Busch Stadium several times while members of the military unfurled an American flag just beyond center field.
