Cardinals activate Jaime Garcia from DL

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The St. Louis Cardinals announced this morning that left-handed pitcher Jaime Garcia (left shoulder) has been activated from the 15-day disabled list and is slated to start this afternoon's (1:15 p.m. CDT) series finale against the Atlanta Braves. To make room for Garcia on the team's 25-man active roster, the Cardinals optioned right-handed pitcher Jorge Rondon to Memphis (AAA).

Garcia, 27, who made a pair of injury rehabilitation starts totaling 7.0 innings pitched on May 4 for Springfield (AA) and May 12 for Memphis (AAA), will be making his first appearance in the majors since May 17, 2013. Today's game is his 100th Major League appearance and his 91st game started.

Garcia is 39-25 with a 3.45 ERA lifetime and was 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA in nine starts in 2013 before his season came to an end when he required surgery to repair a torn labrum and rotator cuff in late May.
