ST. LOUIS -- Pittsburgh manager Clint Hurdle successfully challenged a call at third base, and it saved the Pirates a run in their game against the Cardinals.
With Jon Jay, who had singled, running from first base with one away in the third, Matt Holliday pushed a single through the hole scooped up by the onrushing right fielder Travis Snider, who threw to third.
Snider's throw came in high, and third baseman Pedro Alvarez slapped the tag on Jay. Third-base umpire Ted Barrett ruled safe, but the call was overturned after a review of two minutes and 36 seconds on Hurdle's challenge.
