Cardinals announce roster moves; six players sent to Memphis (AAA) roster

MEMPHIS, Tenn., March 28, 2014 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced the following roster moves tonight as they optioned pitcher Jorge Rondon to their Memphis (AAA) affiliate and re-assigned non-roster invitees David Aardsma, Scott McGregor, Ed Easley, Scott Moore and Stephen Piscotty to the Memphis team.

The Cardinals outrighted outfielder Joey Butler to the Memphis (AAA) roster yesterday, leaving 38 players on the club's 40-man Major League roster. The team also announced that they had earlier re-assigned non-roster invitee Xavier Scruggs to Memphis.

The Cardinals are scheduled to hold a team work out on Sunday, March 30 (2:30 p.m. EDT) at Cincinnati's Great American Ball Park and they will open the 2014 regular season slate on Monday, March 31 (4:10 p.m. EDT) against the Reds. Adam Wainwright has been tabbed by Manager Mike Matheny as the Cardinals Opening Day starter.
