Relevent Sports and the St. Louis Cardinals today announced that the Argentina national team will face Bosnia-Herzegovina on November 18 at 7:30 p.m. (Central Time) at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri.
The match marks the second soccer match at Busch Stadium following Manchester City's 4-3 win over rivals Chelsea on May 23, 2013 in front of a capacity crowd of 48, 263. Tickets to the match will go on sale to the general public Thursday, October 10th at 10AM at cardinals.com/soccer, the Busch Stadium box office and 314.345.9000. A special pre-sale for Cardinals season ticket holders and club VIPs will begin on Tuesday, October 8th.
If Bosnia-Herzegovina fails to qualify for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, it will be replaced by a team to be determined. Bosnia-Herzegovina currently leads Greece in Group G of UEFA World Cup qualifying on goal-differential as both teams are tied on 19 points. The Bosnians host Lichtenstein on October 11th before traveling to Lithuania on October 15th to close out the final round of qualifying.
"We are excited to return to St. Louis with another marquee match," said Relevent Sports CEO Charlie Stillitano. "St. Louis has proven itself to be a premier soccer market and we have no doubt that that the area's soccer fans, including the large Bosnian community, will come out in full-force."
Argentina, led by FC Barcelona star Lionel Messi, recently qualified to the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The team currently leads South American World Cup qualifying with two matches remaining. The team has won the World Cup twice and also features top players such as Sergio Aguero (Manchester City), Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid) and Gonzalo Higuain (Napoli).
"We are very excited to bring soccer back to Busch Stadium," said Bill DeWitt III, President of the Cardinals. "St. Louisans will have what is likely a once in a lifetime opportunity to see Lionel Messi-- one of the greatest players in the world -- in one of the most iconic settings in St. Louis. Soccer fans won't want to miss it."
The Bosnians are led by Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko, Miralem Pjanic from Italian club Roma and former St. Louis University player Vedad Ibevsic who currently plays for Stuttgart in Germany. The team is currently looking to qualify for its first World Cup.
