Cardinals disable Jaime Garcia; Mitchell Boggs recalled from Memphis


ST. LOUIS, MO., May 19, 2013 - The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that they have placed left-handed pitcher Jaime Garcia on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 18, due to a left shoulder strain. The Cardinals have recalled right-handed pitcher Mitchell Boggs from Memphis (AAA) to take Garcia's spot on the active roster.  

Boggs was 0-2 in 14 games with the Cardinals to begin the season and was optioned to Memphis on May 3. In his first five appearances with the triple-A Redbirds, Boggs was unscored upon in 5.0 innings pitched. He allowed three runs in1/3- inning in his last outing - May 16 at Tacoma.

Garcia went 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA in his first nine starts this season, striking out 43 batters in 55.1 innings. He worked 5.1 innings, allowing a pair of three-run homers, in his start Friday (May 17) against the Brewers while posting a 7-6 win.
