Molina likely out until weekend

ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina was still sore on Thursday, a day after he sustained a nasty thigh bruise in a collision with Cubs pitcher Ted Lilly.

Manager Tony La Russa admitted he didn't expect to have Molina available until at least sometime this weekend. Molina didn't participate in normal pregame workouts with his teammates and wore a heavy ice wrap on his thigh a few hours before game time.

"I hope it's a couple [days]," La Russa said. "He got hit pretty solid, and it's a tender area. He's a tough guy, I know that."

Jason LaRue is the Cardinals' primary catcher in Molina's absence. Mark Johnson is the only other catcher on the active roster.
