Cardinals come to terms with 27 Draft picks

The Cardinals have signed 27 of their 44 selections from the 2012 First-Year Player Draft, including supplemental first-round picks Patrick Wisdom and Steve Bean.

St. Louis selected Wisdom, a junior third baseman at St. Mary's, with the 52nd overall choice. He was a compensation pick, awarded to the Cardinals for losing reliever Octavio Dotel to the Tigers via free agency.

Bean, a catcher from Rockwall High School (Texas), passed up a college career at the University of Texas to sign with the Cardinals. He was the 59th overall selection in the Draft, another compensation pick granted to St. Louis for the departure of starting pitcher Edwin Jackson to the Nationals during the offseason.

In all, the Cardinals inked seven players drafted in the first 10 rounds and 15 chosen in the first 20 rounds. Four of the club's 14 selections from the first 10 rounds are still playing in the NCAA Super Regional and cannot sign a contract until their season ends.

Southpaw pitcher Tim Cooney, right-handed pitcher Kyle Barraclough, outfielder Yoenny Gonzalez, catcher Rowan Wick and infielder Jacob Wilson were the five other signed draftees who were selected within the first 10 rounds this week.
