A club official confirmed a Memphis newspaper report that Parisi has a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, and that Parisi is not expected to pitch again this season. Parisi came out of Memphis' Tuesday game against Sacramento due to the injury.
At this time, the club hopes that Parisi will not need to have the elbow reconstructed, a process commonly known as Tommy John surgery.
Parisi pitched in relief and as a starter in St. Louis this year, his first year in the Major Leagues. He went 0-4 with an 8.22 ERA, striking out 15 and walking 13 in 23 innings.
The righty was drafted in 2004 and gradually made his way up the system, pitching at Memphis in 2007 and '08. He has been very durable for most of his Minor League career, making at least 27 starts in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
