PHILADELPHIA -- Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed Wednesday night, and the club announced on Thursday, that right-hander Adam Wainwright continues to progress well in his recovery from a right middle finger injury.
Contrary to a televised report on Wednesday night, Wainwright is making continued progress in his throwing program. He will be reevaluated after the All-Star break.
Left-hander Randy Flores, meanwhile, is scheduled to continue his rehabilitation assignment as he returns from left ankle tendinitis. Flores pitched a perfect inning on Tuesday, needing 11 pitches (seven strikes) to get three outs. He will pitch again on Thursday night for Triple-A Memphis.
Outfielder Brian Barton has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his right wrist. Barton had been placed on the DL with wrist pain, and follow-up examinations determined that he has a fracture. Nonetheless, according to the club he is expected to resume "baseball activities" shortly after the All-Star break.
Finally, the club announced Thursday that rehabbing reliever Tyler Johnson, who underwent left shoulder surgery earlier this year, could begin a throwing program on Aug. 1.
