Carpenter spent the past week with the Cardinals in St. Louis, but when his teammates headed out on a road trip to Milwaukee and Pittsburgh, he returned to the club's Spring Training facility in Jupiter, Fla. Carpenter threw bullpen sessions for the coaching staff on Wednesday and Friday.
On Monday, he threw 20 pitches with hitters facing him. According to general manager John Mozeliak, Carpenter pitched "without complaint and with good throwing intensity."
Carpenter will throw a significant number of live batting practice sessions before he advances to pitching in games. His timetable remains roughly the same as it has been. The hope is he will be able to appear in Major League games sometime around the All-Star break, which would be roughly 12 months after his operation.
