La Russa again shuffles rotation, bumps Lynn

ST. LOUIS -- Cardinals manager Tony La Russa reversed his position on right-hander Lance Lynn's next start, saying the rookie will make his second big league appearance on Thursday in Houston.

La Russa said on Friday that Lynn's next outing would be Wednesday; instead, left-hander Jaime Garcia will get the ball that day against the Astros. The manager said pushing Lynn back a day has less to do with getting him an extra day of rest -- he made his Major League debut last Thursday on three day's rest -- and more with getting Kyle McClellan back in the rotation when he is eligible to come off the disabled list on June 15.

"It has more to do with hopefully putting McClellan available on the first day he's eligible," La Russa said.

Jake Westbrook will begin the series in Houston on Tuesday, and Kyle Lohse will follow Lynn on Friday when the Cardinals open a three-game series at Miller Park against the Brewers.

Lynn allowed five runs on four hits in 5 1/3 innings, striking out five against San Francisco in his first big league start.
