Spiezio doubles twice in Cards' loss

Orioles at the plate: Cesar Crespo's single in the ninth off Russ Springer delivered the winning run in what had been a tie game. Miguel Tejada singled twice, drove in the game's first run and reached when he was hit by a pitch. Jay Payton had three hits, including an RBI double, and Kevin Millar rapped a two-run single in a three-run third.

Cardinals at the plate: Jim Edmonds made his Grapefruit League debut with a walk and a groundout. Scott Spiezio kept up his strong spring with a pair of doubles and a walk, and Gary Bennett singled twice and had a two-run double. Chris Duncan singled, walked and scored two runs.

Orioles on the mound: Jaret Wright struggled with control in a four-inning stint, giving up four runs on four hits while walking four. Four relievers pitched a shutout inning each, highlighted by John Parrish's three-up, three-down, three-strikeout ninth for the save.

Cardinals on the mound: Anthony Reyes had the rockiest outing of the spring by a Cards starter, allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings. Ryan Franklin pitched two shutout innings of relief, and prospect Chris Perez had a 1-2-3 inning in his first taste of Major League action.

Grapefruit League records: Orioles 13-11; Cardinals 12-10.

Up next: The Orioles will travel across the state to face the Twins in Fort Myers on Monday, with Adam Loewen going against ex-Orioles righty Sidney Ponson in a 12:05 p.m. CT start. The Cardinals will be the visitors in their own home ballpark on Monday, facing the Florida Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium. Adam Wainwright opposes the Marlins' Sergio Mitre at 12:05 p.m.
