Cardinals settle for tie with Braves

Braves at the plate: Pete Orr registered two doubles in three at-bats off Chris Carpenter and enjoyed a two-RBI performance. Andruw Jones contributed a pair of singles, and Kelly Johnson provided a fourth-inning RBI double.

Cardinals at the plate: Chris Duncan hit a fifth-inning solo homer off Rafael Soriano, and one inning later, Edgar Gonzalez drilled a two-run homer off Mike Gonzalez. Yadier Molina's two-run double keyed a three-run fourth inning.

Braves on the mound: Making his second Grapefruit League start, Mark Redman worked four innings, allowing three earned runs and five hits. Soriano had worked three scoreless innings before allowing Duncan's leadoff homer. Mike Gonzalez allowed two earned runs and three hits in one inning.

Cardinals on the mound: Carpenter allowed eight hits and four earned runs in four innings. Ricardo Rincon and Randy Keisler limited the Braves to just one unearned run over the course of three innings.

Grapefruit League records: Cardinals (8-6-3); Braves (8-6-2)

Up next: The Braves and Cardinals will continue their two-game series on Saturday. John Smoltz will oppose Braden Looper.
