DODGERS (ss) 3, CARDINALS 2
at Jupiter, Fla.
Thursday, March 15
Dodgers at the plate:
Juan Pierre rapped three singles, including one infield hit, and drove in a run. Tony Abreu had an RBI single, and James Loney singled twice. Delwyn Young rapped an RBI double.
Cardinals at the plate:
On another mostly quiet offensive day, Scott Rolen poked his second double of the spring. David Eckstein reached base twice, on a walk and a hit-by-pitch. Chris Duncan hit a pinch-hit home run in the ninth.
Dodgers on the mound:
Starter Mark Hendrickson stifled the Redbirds, pitching five innings of three-hit, shutout ball with one walk and two strikeouts. Greg Miller walked two and hit a batter, but escaped from his two innings without allowing a run.
Cardinals on the mound:
Jason Isringhausen's Grapefruit League debut was eventful but effective. The right-hander permitted two hits, but got out of a bases-loaded, no out jam with no runs allowed. Adam Wainwright was a bit ragged at first, allowing four singles and two runs to his first five batters, but wasn't scored on again, lasting five innings.
Grapefruit League records:
Dodgers 11-6; Cardinals 8-6.
The Dodgers return home for a 10:05 a.m. PT start against the Red Sox. It will be a marquee pitching matchup at Holman Stadium, with Brad Penny facing the Red Sox's Daisuke Matsuzaka. The Cardinals head north to play under the lights. Chris Carpenter starts at 6:05 p.m. CT at Cracker Jack Stadium in Orlando against Atlanta's Mark Redman.
