Pitcher Jake Westbrook underwent left shoulder surgery to repair a small tear, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported on Wednesday.
According to the report, Dr. James Andrews performed the procedure within the past 10 days in Birmingham, Ala.
Westbrook, a right-hander, went 4-4 with a 3.48 ERA in 12 starts for the Cardinals after being acquired from the Indians at the Trade Deadline. He can be a free agent after the World Series ends.
According to the report, Westbrook's surgery will not affect his ability to prepare for the 2011 season.
