CHICAGO -- The only thing missing from a perfect day for Chris Carpenter on Saturday was a Cardinals win.
Carpenter attended the Stanley Cup Finals playoff game between the Chicago Blackhawks and Philadelphia Flyers, and as he sat in the stands, he received a text that good friend and former teammate Roy Halladay had a perfect game in the works in Miami.
"I got a text in the middle of the hockey game that he was close," Carpenter said. "So I watched the final two innings on my phone."
The two right-handers were teammates in Toronto, coming up together through the Blue Jays system. They've remained friends and mutual admirers. Still, Carpenter said he hasn't dialed up his old buddy just yet.
"I texted him," he said. "I figure he's got millions of people calling him. ... That's pretty special, though."
